Two Monster Hunter games are coming to Nintendo Switch in 2021
Monster Hunter Rise and Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin
Capcom has announced Monster Hunter Rise and Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin for Nintendo Switch.
The next entry in the hunting action series, Monster Hunter Rise, will be released on March 26, 2021, it was confirmed during a Nintendo Direct Mini: Partner Showcase on Thursday.
It will be followed by Monster Hunter Stories 2, which is described as “a rich RPG story”, in the summer of 2021. According to Nintendo, the game “puts players in the role of a Monster Rider who befriends iconic monsters from the Monster Hunter series as they embark on epic adventures together”.
Speaking in a Monster Hunter Direct presentation, which you can watch at the top of this page, Monster Hunter series producer Ryozo Tsujimoto said: “The ‘Rise’ in the title refers to the idea of hunters running up cliffs and making use of the verticality of the environment, as well as our desire to create a game that gets lots of people around the world bursting with excitement.”
The game will let players explore cliffs and elevated platforms using a small creature called the Wirebug.
Game director Yasunori Ichinose said: “The player carries several of these small bugs around and they allow you to climb to a variety of places that would normally be out of reach.
“Additionally, there’s a great variety of actions you can perform by combining the Wirebugs with attacks. Using these unique attacks with your favourite weapon is what the combat is going to be all about.”
Capcom will release three Amiibo alongside Monster Hunter Rise, which will let players unlock special layered armour.
Monster Hunter Rise will have some unspecified compatibility features with Monster Hunter Stories 2.
During a shareholder meeting this summer, Capcom confirmed it was “looking into development of Monster Hunter games for teenage children”.
And last month, a noted Capcom insider claimed the publisher was gearing up to announce a new Monster Hunter game for Nintendo Switch.
