Spider-Man 2 reportedly uses just 10% of the dialogue recorded by Venom’s voice actor
Tony Todd reveals some of the content which didn’t make the final cut
Spider-Man 2 voice actor Tony Todd has reportedly said that 90% of the dialogue he recorded for Venom wasn’t included in the final game.
Todd reportedly made the claim over the weekend at a Fan Expo San Francisco panel attended by Evan Filarca, a content creator who runs the fan website Spidey Squad.
Among the content left on the cutting room floor were scenes in which Miles had the Symbiote suit, Todd revealed.
If the claim that Insomniac Games used just 10% of the lines Todd recorded for Venom is accurate, it’s unclear whether the studio ended up scrapping a large amount of content that might once have been included in the game, or if it recorded extra dialogue with a view to using it for potential DLC or a spin-off title.
Asked about the potential for a Venom spin-off in an interview published just before Spider-Man 2 was released in October, Insomniac senior narrative director Jon Paquette told Insider that fans would play a significant role in helping the studio decide where to take the series.
“We’re focused on Spider-Man 2, and what we’re gonna do is we’re gonna wait to see how the fans react,” he said. “We’re gonna listen to the fans and we’re gonna ask ourselves, ‘Okay, what do the fans really want?’
“We’ll kind of talk about stuff after we’ve all had time to sleep and take vacations.”
Discussing the casting of Candyman actor Todd as Venom, he added: “So, we brought Tony in and he submitted a few lines for kind of an audition. And it was like, ‘Oh, my gosh, this is the exact vibe that we’re going for.’ He fits it perfectly.”
“I want this to be one of the best Venom stories you’ve ever experienced,” Paquette also said. “We’ll see what the reviewers have to say.”
